Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We've had unexpected visits from the council several times in the past week around 8:00pm and am wondering what this is about. The first time our upstairs neighbours answered the door after persistent ringing on the door bell (we had already gone to bed). Any way to stop them cold calling at the house? Thanks.

Interesting. Did they say what it was about and what evidence of ID did they give? Only dept working out of hours would be the noise enforcement I would've thought.
Could also be about recycling, if you are a persistent non recycler (my upstairs neighbour was) they will come round and knock....also council tax is another reason...
No, from what my upstairs neighbour told me, they were asking for me and didn't explain why. We did have a late Halloween party so I suppose it could have been regarding a noise complaint and we do recycle so I don't think it was that. I would have thought an initial letter in the post would be sufficient to resolve any issues rather than a home visit.

A neighbour had a visit recently from the council in the evening, it was about the electoral roll.

That was my first thought. I've also been surveyed by the Smarter Travel team lately.
Spike, it will be regarding getting you on the voting register. This is now done annually as people move about so much. You would have had two letters asking you to re-register. If you don't do it they start knocking on your door. You can be fined if you don't ultimately re-register so suggest you speak to that person next time :)

Thanks, Dave.  That sounds like a reasonable explanation.  :)

yes electoral role sounds about right, there not that quick at responding to environmental health issues!!

Had a knock last week around the same time - indeed it was about the electoral role

Thanks everyone for your input. Much appreciated! :)
