URGENT appeal from SNARL: Cats going missing, being injured and killed in London area

As most people are now aware, there have been a number of victims of the person killing cats and other animals including rabbits and foxes in the greater London area. We are working with the police to identify the culprit/s and we strongly advise you to keep your cats in 24/7 if possible, or only let them out under supervision and certainly keep them in overnight.

PLEASE KEEP THIS LEAFLET SAFE SO THAT YOU WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO:

If you see anyone behaving suspiciously with a cat, please call 999 (this advice comes directly from the police) immediately and report it. Likewise if you see anyone with a knife or bladed weapon, dial 999.

If you see any domestic or wild animals who have been injured or found dead with: slashed neck/ decapitation, slashed belly, leg and/or tail removed or any other injury which looks like it is a knife wound, please contact us on 07961 030064 or 07957 830 490 immediately. Please connect with us via our Facebook Page: South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty SNARL to stay informed about what is happening, and to help us to spread the word.

Please also report the finding to the police either by calling 999 if you are at the scene or 101 if it is some time since you saw/ found the body and/or parts.

It is ABSOLUTELY VITAL that the animal is safeguarded and we will come out, even if it is after hours to collect any body and/or body parts for examination by the vet working on this case. If the animal is still alive please take him or her straight to a vet for treatment and call us as soon as you can.

Hi Ursula, I will text her tomorrow.  She didn't know what to do, so she called 101, as it wasn't an accident and gave details about the cat. They told her to call Veolia to collect the body. If we had known about the SNARL's existence, we would've contacted them.

Thanks so much.  101 is what is also recommended as the Police are actively involved so she did the right thing. But like many,  may just think it is South London reports only which should be reported on to SNARL or it fell through the cracks. The police get 10000's of calls a day. Either way, if she could supply them all the details would be great.  :)

Some people who maim animals go on to be mass killers? Seriously? - THERE IS ALREADY A BLOODY KNIFE PROBLEM IN NORTH LONDON!!!!! IT'S NOT CATS ON THE RECEIVING END OF IT!!!!

John, I was just pointing out the difference between disseminating information and scaremongering... I certainly don't think we should value feline lives over human ones (oh boy, am I going to get the 3rd degree for this....)

Antoinette, I think John is objecting to the Psychology Today article and is agreeing with you.

Well when I read his "kill all the humans" comment, I thought I should err on the side of caution :-)

What an unfortunate acronym

What's wrong with it? They see themselves as defending animals, and animals snarl when they are cornered and have to fight back.

Too much snarling among humans. I dislike and avoid anyone who snarls at me.

What's wrong with SNAP ( protection ) ?

I think SNARL is better personally. Dogs do snap, of course, but less so cats. I think SNARL is more distinctive and also emotive.

True. " SNAP " is not much better.
