Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A neighbour's car was broken into outside our house the other day leaving broken window glass on the pavement and in the gutter. I called Veolia this afternoon to ask if they could come and clear it up and someone was there doing it within about half an hour.

I know Veolia get a lot of grief but I think some of the street cleaners do a really good job (albeit that it is usually undone fairly swiftly by people dropping litter) and I was impressed by the turnaround time on this request, so I wanted to give them some credit where it is due.

Here's another appreciative one.  Last Saturday between 1145 and 1315 two loads of junk were dumped, one 25 metres up a ladder road and the other plumb on the corner of the road with Green Lanes (pictures below). By 1800 it had all gone, bar the chair.

I'd guess it was a Veolia streetsweeper who was able to act so quickly and get it collected. Given much of it was bedding, it wouldn't have waited till Mon/Tues for collection, it would have been rained on by then - to say nothing of passing dogs/foxes.

Looked to me like a flat handover given door activity in the afternoon at the property door midway between the two dump locations, so not possible in the absence of eyewitness evidence to establish if it was the old tenant, the new tenant, or the agent who carried it out. But it was cleared very smartly.

Shame they didn't collect my recycling this morning though - the bin is full.

Sadly I also had a similar experience. Our recycling collection was missed last Friday, I reported it late that day via Haringey website, and it still hasn't been cleared. The bin is now full and we have more stuff to put out. Reported it again yesterday and was informed it would be cleared by the end of the next working day, but I was also advised that on Friday...

To add insult to injury I am having problems with renewing our parking permit and Haringey are not meeting their response criteria.... and the new council tax bill dropped through the letter box.

Lived in Haringey for over 10 yeas and noticing a big deterioration in services and responses

fast respond and removal must be applauded but what we should all know is how much does it cost to remove.

Maybe a lot more money is made removing fly tipping than scheduled waste removal.

What does it cost?

Veolia were supposed to collect bulky waste on Saturday. It's still there
