What Future for Haringey?

A 33 minute 16mm film made for Haringey Council in 1974 ('What Future For Haringey') was recently discovered in Hornsey Town Hall and has been restored and put online. Directed by Andrew McTaggart, it opens with the question 'What is Haringey' and describes itself as a 'Film Preface to the Borough Plan'. It was made by Middlesex Polytechnic at Hornsey and the Planning Department of the Council.

Film London and the Heritage Fund ran a competition with the brief 'to make a contrasting short film that will be used as heritage archive resource now and in the future.' 
​A team of young filmmakers ​led by Marissa Mireles (producer/director) emerged winners and are  shooting a short ​15 min ​documentary on the cultural, anthropological and architectural changes​ that have taken place in the last 45 years. 
​
Their focus is on housing (e.g. gentrification), immigration and job availability.​

Who should the filmmakers talk to?  
​I thought:
Our two MPs David Lammy and Catherine West - he was born here and she's been active next door for a long time.
Sharon Grant(Bernie Grant's widow) about him and his legacy and her own activities.
One or two senior Cllrs and Council Officers - Sheila Peacock (in Tottenham sing the late 1940's), Steve Amor (found the film, does lots of architectural-related stuff for the Council).
Somebody from Tottenham Hotspur?
Deborah Hedgecock, curator, Bruce Castle Museum
Someone from Ally Pally?
Bridget Cherry, Hornsey Historical Society.
Gordon Rathbone, Hornsey Carnival
Some of the long term 'activists' and commentators - Hugh Flouch and Liz Ixer(of this fine website), Dave Morris (Federation of Haringey Resident's Associations), Sue Hessel (blogs for the local press).
One or two of the celebs (if I can get to them) - Peter Capaldi, Ray Davies, Robert Peston
It's only a 15min short, they're almost all first-time filmmakers and have very little money or resources, so they may not be able to be as comprehensive as they'd want (it's very easy to list names, but getting out there and filming them is a huge amount of work of course)
How has Haringey changed and how has that change affected us​ all​?

Given that the number of people living here has hardly changed since then, I wonder if the betting opportunities per capita have increased or decreased since the 1970's, and if their future is more or less gambling?

Slightly off-topic, but one former betting opportunity removed was on the greyhounds at Harringay Stadium - though part of the old mechanical totalizator (Tote) machine was salvaged and is at the Science Museum's outstation.

Wow. I remember the days of the stadium. I watched Motorsport (banger racing) a few times there before it turn d into a market. Good ol days.

What a fanastic idea. What about some people (can't give any names I'm afraid) who were newly arrived around the time the film was made in 1974 and have seen how it's changed for fhen? Haringey, and especially Harringay, saw a lot of people arriving due to the conflict in Cyprus. I don't know if Cllr Adamou was here then but she might well know some people who were.

Wow thanks Angela - I never thought of JC but of course he was here for a long time - I'll ask him but he's so busy nowadays I don't suppose he'll even get to hear of the request until it's too late - they only have a week :)

I have contact details for Dick and OAE and I know how to contact Fairland Park people and will try Andy through GRA.
