Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm adding this post so that people can share things they've learned or questions raised by tonight's relatively well attended drop-in meeting.

Wow you're actually posting before you've even left the meeting... impressive!

The questions I asked and got answers to are;
1. The promised yellow box junctions on Green Lanes are coming...they will be monitored by the existing cameras...should be there by the end of the month
2. The Hampden Road/Wightman Road block will have bollards installed on the pavements to stop cars mounting... not sure when
3. Network Rail have no maintenance on the rail bridge at Harringay Green Lanes planned so that was just a rumour
4. There will apparently be a new sign at the bottom of Umfreville Road with the names of all the businesses still trading on Wightman Road to make sure people realise they are still open. Not sure if they intend to do similar signs on other ladder roads for the other businesses...

And as a footnote it was lovely to meet you, Hugh...and Michael and Penny and others...and Mrs George the Taylor... sorry I don't think I caught your name!
I think there might be a typo in the heading Hugh!
Hahahah hahahah hahahah
Oops........

I've always wanted to go to one of those

Q-Why can't residents access the northern ladder roads from Wightman, closing them off at Willoughby Road/Green Lanes End to stop through traffic?

A-Cars would still turn into Wightman and ladder and then have to U turn.

Q-But there is space to turn around?

A-Too many cars would turn around, could cause damage to parked cars..??

Q-They would soon learn there was no through Road to Green Lanes , traffic wardens can tell cars at Wightman turning and they would change habits

A-No, as cars and the same ones would repeatedly keep turning into the ladders to get to Green Lanes ...

I talked about the problems caused by traffic entering the box junction by McDonalds and blocking the exit from the Arena. Got a commitment to have a look at improving the CCTV monitoring.
Got the feeling that Haringey remain committed to the closure of Wightman during the bridge work but let's wait and see.
Other things I overheard being discussed was that there should be better/more strident enforcement of the box junction at the Arena...also that the new Wightman Road bridge should have barriers separating pedestriams/cycle lane from the traffic.

Great so cyclists can be crushed against the railings.

I heard that there will be more measures to curtail cycling. A shame as it's brought about by one well publicised case of assault and a measure of only 80% compliance of the "Cyclists Dismount" signs. Is anyone even remotely interested in a "Cyclists Please Dismount" sign? Legally that's probably more suitable.

My understanding was the suggestion was the cyclists would be the other side of said railings. Perhaps you should read more carefully before you jump in to criticise....and in any case it wasn't my suggestion

I was just replying to you, criticizing the measure, but in no way accusing you of being the one to instigate it. I understand how this is confusing though, the number of people who behave towards me like I am personally responsible for the road being completely closed... Sorry.

Chatting about all of this with a local friend this morning and the danger of the pedestrian crossing on that junction was highlighted. It is really not clear to motorists turning right out of Arena onto Green Lanes as to whether the pedestrian crossing is on green or stop. Something needs to be done there to prevent an accident.
