It's not about the shops, it's about the FOBTs inside them. I notice that Claire Kober was tweeting this with apparent glee at the weekend. Anything that gives Haringey Council more powers is a bad thing, they struggle to enforce the ones they have at the moment.

Channel 4 news just had an item about FOBTs and including the reporter in Green Lanes commenting on the high street being targeted by betting chains. Also an an ex manager of paddy power who talked about targeting gamblers from other shops who were seen to be spending lots of money. Staff basically being told not to put out government advisory leaflets anywhere near the machines. Al very unsavoury for gamblers with Problems. The council really needs to get a grip of the blight round here

A guy some of us played cricket with worked in a betting shop in Wood Green and had tales of men coming in with debit cards and asking for £500 at a time on "that one there" until it was all gone. Anyone who thinks this money just falls into their laps from punters wanting a flutter on the horses needs to think about it a bit more.

A few gamblers do more than 100k a year just in one shop. I've seen people lose 3k (with no reaction) quicker than the time it would take to have a hair cut. It's possible they could be flying around London working 30 or 40 shops each week ...

Follow the money, not the smell of weed.
