Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I came across this a while back via Dan Snow's History Hit podcats. Dig Hill 80

There is a spot in SW Belgium that has been pretty much undisturbed since WWI that formed part of the wider Battle of Messines in 1917, as a prelude to the Battle of Passchendale. In this spot a farm complex had been integrated into the German lines of defence and in June 1917 it was finally taken after some grueling fighting.

A multinational team want to carry out an archaeological dig on the site to expand on previous preliminary investigations that demonstrated there is a lot of undisturbed archaeology from the battle in the area. To do this they are crowd funding the dig and are looking for support.

I have read much about WWI and the conditions soldiers from all nations labored under, and it frankly blows me away. I will be supporting this, and actually gifting some support on behalf of my God Son in the hope that he will come to understand how lucky he is (at 16, he was destined for the slaughterhouse too in 1914-18). The dig team have already found the remains of some of the combatants, and will undoubtedly find others that can be properly and respectfully laid to rest.

The crowd funding is linked to here. Dig Hill 80
