Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Stuck in traffic in Station Rd, Wood green yesterday, I saw a green steam engine on the back of a lorry. It's number was 174, (might have been 179). Anybody know anything about this one?

I remembered too late that my newfangled smart phone has a camera.

Not much to go on so far, and not the sort of event where you get much time to stand and stare, but do you recall any other details, e.g. was it as wide as the lorry it was on, or rather narrower (which would be the difference between standard gauge and narrow gauge).

There's a green locomotive numbered 178 - was it anything like this below?

The nearest I can find offhand is this one:-

It wasn't the full length of the trailer though.

Well there is an apple green locomotive of that class, picture below, but its number is rather different:

The penny has just dropped! It was Gresley designed GNR N2 0-6-2 suburban tank No. 1744 on its way to Bounds Green for unloading to appear at Kings Cross allong with a Gresley designed restaurant car for the unveiling of a new statue of its designer (and also designer of 'Flying Scotsman' and 'Mallard') Sir Nigel Gresley. Gresley's office when LNER Chief Mechanical Engineer was in the West Side offices at "The Cross".

Glenn, thank you very much. I was puzzled what any loco was doing in Wood Green, with no preserved railway nearby. And I didn't see any footage of the train in the news stories about unveiling the statue - all the focus was on the absence of a mallard duck as part of the statue!

I Think that Loco is going to the Epping Onger steam Railway soon .

Ah, the truck carrying it was heading from WG towards Ally Pally.
