As reported on this site a couple of months ago, it was confirmed that new hardware is being installed in the Williamson Road/Green Lanes and the Endymion Road/Green Lanes traffic lights. This will enable better phasing of the two sets of lights and co-ordination between them which, it is anticipated, will improve the traffic.
If should be in place within a few weeks..........or at the latest by the end of April.
It is also hoped that the keen interest shown by these various parties can be directed towards a review of the wider local traffic situation - of particular relevance to the Ladder traffic issue (being discussed on a separate post on this site).…
ll be closing at 6 pm this Friday, 16th Nov and not re-opening until 9 next Thursday, 22nd Nov. Great excuse to overspend at Waitrose Holloway then.
(Is it just me or does the store seem to have got a lot busier over the 6 months or so?)…

Improving shopping congestion in Green Lanes
Wednesday 2 April 2008
A range of options to improve traffic flow around a shopping complex in Green Lanes were discussed at a meeting convened by Haringey Council on Monday 31 March.
The meeting was called to consider ways of addressing increased congestion around the junction of Williamson Road and Green Lanes, N4, by the Arena shopping development and Sainsbury's.
Representatives from the council and Wildmoor Properties - the owners of the Arena complex - and Sainsbury's agreed to look at a number of options to improve the traffic flow.
These include potentially rerouting traffic around the complex itself. Other possible options include working with partners to introduce a lay-by at the southbound bus stop by the junction with Williamson Road. This would ease traffic flows as vehicles would no longer have to wait behind buses at the bus stop.
Representatives at the meeting also agreed to enter into discussions with London and Quadrant Housing Trust, which owns land at the rear of the site, over the possibility of introducing emergency access only to the site from Finsbury Park Avenue.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Conservation, Cllr Brian Haley, said:
"This was a useful meeting and I was very pleased with the positive response we received from Sainsbury's and Wildmoor Properties.
"There are no simple solutions to these problems. We need to work very closely together and with a range of other partners if we're going to tackle this congestion effectively.
"I look forward to meeting with both organisations again in May and I hope some positive progress will have been made on all sides."
No Brian. There are no simple solutions - except perhaps getting a proper job done during the planning application process . And we too hope for some postive progress, but we've learned not to hold our breaths.…
g all the waiting traffic, screaming abuse at the hapless parking attendants trying to direct/calm the remaining traffic. I've seen several threads on this but they all seem to be from last year. I've reported the problem to the council (as I hope have many others) but the problem seems to have just got worse and worse. It seems particularly bad this week for some reason.
Does anyone know what is being done or planned to try and sort this out? I'm surprised that there hasn't been a serious assault or incident due to the ridiculously badly thought out traffic lights and planning of the extension of the store.…
n the original smaller Homebase/wholesale cash & carry/Royal Mail delivery office structures on the Arena part of the site were swept away and replaced by the current retail park early 2000s, including the Argos which generated a lot of 'turn up and buy' traffic before online shopping was much of a thing. The Sainsbury's expansion into clothing and homewares I've no feeling for in terms of extra traffic.
Now, Sainsbury's owns Argos, and Sainsbury's plans to close 'up to 70' Argos stores. So if the Harringay store closes, Sainsbury's won't have the same-size warehousing for stock, so a proportion of Argos online shoppers will choose delivery over click and collect because it won't be already in stock for instant collection. Also, Argos now has a delivery service - so one van on a multi-drop run will be replacing, one hopes, several cars from the 'turn up and buy' traffic. So it may not be yet another increase in overall traffic.
I see it will be built at the back (eastern) end of the car park - currently only used by learner drivers, fast food consumers and (formerly) indigent travellers.…
affic on Green Lanes both ways at B150 Endymion Road , in Green Lanes. Police directing traffic"
So our local problem has now made it - it's ofifcial. Hopefully this will help bringing more attention to this huge c**k up of a development?…
