Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!


Damage caused by a V2 which fell at 8.15 a.m. on 10th November 1944.

The building in the background is the pub near Hornsey Station. Compare with this photo.

This image was published in "Give My Love To……", by Graham Inward, a collection of childhood memories of evacuation and wartime London, 1939 – 1945. The copyright remains with the author.

Well found, Hugh. So, if this was a V-2, the photo is late 1944-early1945?

According to my book the V2 on Ribblesdale road descended at 08:15 in the morning... I have a photo taken from the crater.. I just need a bit of time to get it online..

IF I can read something into the photograph.. there are a couple of ARP wardens in the shot, plus local government people (in light rain coats)as well as the elderly WI woman, who seems to be leading a grave looking couple, probably shocked and looking for relations?

It seems the point of impact was on the east side of Tottenham Lane, by the present exit from Jewsons, not on the west side as I thought. Here's what it looks like today
