So wonderfully tranquil! Children could actually play without having dodge the accursed traffic and parked cars. And the houses and gardens - which, I guess, would have only been only around 30-40 years old - look so smart. Will try to imagine this when next walking down.

More or less like this when I grew up in the. 1940s and 1950s.  There was the odd car, nothing more.  Few could afford to run a car and we didn't need one thanks to good public transport.

Those lime trees are still there on the corner of Fairfax but not the terraces. They should probably have tree protection orders on them.
