Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Wightman Road

The inside of St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Wightman Road, Harringay.

I just wandered in to the church, asked permission to take some pics and by good fortune was approached by Eleftherios Foulidis who spent 20 years painting the church's murals.

Find out more about his work at his website (archived version only - website withdrawn in 2015) or his Facebook page. See more photos on Flickr.

This church is listed by English Heritage and Eletherios' work is cited as one of the reasons for for the listing.</ br> A very characteristic late design by Brooks and Son, endowed with an extra level of special interest on account of its modern Greek Orthodox decorative scheme, which is truly remarkable in the national context.

Wow. Walk past there daily. In fact, HAVE been thinking to pop in since it's a fairly substantial church and now I really must. Thanks, Hugh!
