Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We all of us overlook this little architectural gem on our doorstep. So, when I noticed it open on my way this morning I took the opportunity to have another peek inside and shot this short video.

In the closing few seconds of the shot, you'll see Eileen who's lived in Harringay since 1937. She used to work occasionally at the Stadium and has some great stories about the Arena and Stadium which, time permitting, I hope to get down on video or audio.

See also this post reproducing some coverage of the church when it first opened.

It's a beautiful interior. Has a mediterranean feel and that altar piece is lovely.

Thanks for this, Hugh. It looks rather good - the video gives a sense of the space though, as someone who has never ventured inside, it seems a little smaller than I was expecting?

Yep, it's not huge and it's quite serene inside.

James - it's usually open on a Sunday

Thanks for the video, and for the two articles. I had no idea what it looked like inside.

I was so impressed with this beautiful little modern church when I moved to Burgoyne Road 10 years ago AND then to see the alter piece made by an artist (Stephen Cox) that I knew from my time at Lisson Gallery was a double-wow for me. I have been to services very occasionally (a few Christmas Days and Easters) and always felt welcome and glad to have joined the congregation. I urge all to go in (on a Sunday!) to view inside and enjoy the 'feel' of the place. The alter and font are beautifully made and I could say a lot more but anyway, I love it. Thanks Hugh.
