Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following his failure to be reselected by the St Ann's Labour party Cllr Haley this afternoon announced his decision to cross the floor and join the Lib Dems.

I imagine that we can therefore expect imminently an announcement that he'll be standing with a different shirt on at the next elections.

I've been told that there's been intense discussion between the centre and the local party about this move.

You are doing Nora, Gina and Jon's job for them. Just thought I'd point that out.

See what odds one of our numerous bookies will give you on there being a Conservative Harringay ward councilor this summer.
How am I doing their job for them? Find out and let me know! Who would have predicted the Democrats would lose Ted Kenndy's Massachusett seat. Did you or the bookies see that one coming?

or man city 2- man utd 1
i lost 50p on that.
Now we're talking important issues here i'm glad you brought this up.
There are currently two Lib Dem councilors in Harringay ward, although you don't need me to tell you that. Brian is looking to become the third no doubt.
I agree that not many people would have thought that Ted Kennedy's seat would go red before he died but I doubt you could have gotten good odds since then. I'm just pointing out that it's unlikely that we'll have a Conservative councilor here from spring's elections. If you take that on board then you'll see that by slagging off the Lib Dems here you are helping out Labour. I understand that you're probably getting a fair bit of joy out of all this but thought you might want to consider who you're helping. Cui Bono and all that.

Notice that Nora, Gina and Jon (apart from one little tweet) have been very quiet. Did you not think it odd that Brian thinks you and Labour had ganged up on him?
A plague on both their houses, tbh.
Justin, after 57 years of the Kennedys Ms Coakley may indeed have been something of an Irish trifle, to use a good political term (what the Italians call suppa inglese, I'm told).
But as Lloyd Bentsen said to Tim Quayle back in '88: 'Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.'
It must be the Tories' turn to lose someone to this promiscuous bed-hopping craze. Ah no, I had a senior moment there. Hasn't Dobbie already . . . . ?
Cui Bono and all that.
U2, John! Don't tell me that bugger's standing here too. He's been annoying Africa for years - he might leave Harringay well enough alone.
this is this funniest post I have read on HoL for a long time - thanks for making me laugh Eddie
Yes, thanks Eddie. Made me smile!
'Brian has decided that the Labour leadership is not up to the job of running the Council'

Brian was the Labour leadership. He's leaving the Council because he doesn't like the way he has been running it! Do you honestly think his deselection had nothing to do with his defection? Do you honestly think if he'd been doing his job, he wouldn't have been able to outshine every other candidate in the room when the selection interviews took place?

You have worked hard, David, to earn the respect of people in your constituency and ward. You must be gutted. There are internal decisions that are made by political parties, for expediency or spin, that drive activists and people with principles absolutely crazy. This is one of those. The Conservatives did post that they were rejecting his overtures. Do Richard Merrin's words not ring at all true to you? And if they do, where does that leave the Lib Dems?

Subject: Cllr Haley and role of Environment & Conservation Cabinet member

Dear Ita,

Good morning to you.

I would be grateful if you could let me know when you were informed of the decision by Councillor Haley to join the Liberal Democrat group and also therefore resigning as Cabinet member for Environment and Conservation?

I ask this as I was surprised nothing was mentioned formally at the Council meeting last night in your report. I will be asking the Leader as to whether the reducing Majority Group will put forward a replacement for Cllr Haley - I presume the Council will then be asked to endorse the recommendation?

Many thanks indeed,

Cllr. Alan Dobbie,

Conservative Councillor for Noel Park ward,

L.B. Haringey.
