Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Please show your support for Wards Corner in Court tomorrow, Wednesday.

Wednesday 28 August is a critical day for Wards Corner Community Coalition. After our application for Judicial Review of Haringey Council's decision to grant planning permission for the Grainger development was turned down by a Judge at the Royal Courts of Justice in April, we submitted an application to seek permission to appeal this decision. We will receive the Judge's answer in Court tomorrow!

The more people attend the hearing the better, to show that Wards Corner matters to the people of Tottenham, and beyond. Please come show your support for Wards Corner and WCC!

You can meet us at 11.30 outside the Royal Courts of Justice, the Strand (http://goo.gl/maps/fRjPj) nearest tubes Temple, Holborn, Chancery Lane or City Thameslink. The case will be heard at 12 (lasting a maximum of 30 mins) in Court 75 before Lord Justice Laws

Please pass this information on via your networks - the more the better!

Background information is here. In a sentence, the market, shops and houses above Seven Sisters tube station are threatened with being demolished in favour of LBH's preferred 'regeneration' - private-flat tower blocks and a clone-town High Street.

Of course I wasn't notified of the outcome by the Dear Leader. But suspicious-looking councillors trying to leave Haringey were stopped at the Enfield border and grilled for nine hours by Hari-Leaks; and the following message copied from a laptop.

From: Claire Kober, "Leader" of the Council

"This morning the Court of Appeal permission hearing took place in respect of the Wards Corner Judicial Review. I am pleased to report that the judge agreed with the last three judges on all 3 grounds of challenge, and as a result Grainger is finally in possession of an uncontestable planning consent.
"To confirm, there is no further opportunity for the Wards Corner Coalition to challenge the planning permission to the effect that it could be quashed.
"I have just spoken to Grainger's Development Director who has confirmed they will be starting the CPO process within weeks.
"I'm sure you'll agree that this is fantastic news in our efforts to regenerate the area. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this outcome."

This message is rather more triumphalist than the gentler, softer, more conciliatory Press Release in the Haringey Independent  which mentioned “a new market hall” and “a revamped market – including a great deal of support for independent local traders”.

It's not over yet.

Megalomania is clearly delusional. After more than five and a half years, the Wards Corner Community Coalition has no intention whatsoever of abandoning its determination to achieve community-led regeneration at Wards Corner. Yesterday's decision at the High Court was little more than a glitch. So, with apologies to Winnie, yesterday wasn't the end, nor the beginning of the end, but merely the end of the beginning. WCC will not cease its activities until the Council listens to, and works for, the community that it is supposed to represent. Perhaps Cllr Kober would like to relay that message to Boris, Grainger, and all other would-be despoilers of Tottenham!
