Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For information - the parking restrictions (double yellow lines ) on the section outside the Mosque to Hornsey station are now being enforced and cars were clamped this morning.

Enforcement is by a private parking control company, presumably contracted by Network Rail.

Network rail only own from the bridge up. Outside the mosque would be the council. I wonder if they'll do the same to cars parked illegally outside St John's today?
john Mc. From the bridge up to where, What do you mean ?
I have had correspondence with Tony Kennedy at Highways this week with regard to the restriction on this short stretch of road - Haringey shouldn't be enforcing from the junction with Wightman Road up to the point where the road narrows, at this point it is the responsibility of Network Rail who can enforce if they so wish. If cars were being clamped in the section for which the council is responsible let me know and I will follow it up.
I'm sure these directions make perfect sense to you.
Karen, I looked into this some months ago at the request of a resident; and one of the businesses near the station. We established who owns which stretch of roadway.

I'm now a bit confused about the Enforcement issue on the Haringey-owned part of Hampden Road. Could I please suggest you publish the correspondence with Tony Kennedy as an attachment to a posting on HoL. As you will know from your colleague Cllr Martin Newton, it sometimes takes months to get hard information from the Parking and Highways teams. So it's useful if everyone is as clear as possible about the legal position.

Can I also draw attention to this thread in August 2009 which led to discussion about parking problems on Hampden Road especially during Ramadan.

It's entirely understandable that Haringey Highways team focuses on 'adopted" roads (or parts of roads) which the borough actually owns. And also that it sees Enforcement in these terms. However, as I regularly suggest, there's more than one way to approach this type of problem. From comments last year, the Mosque wants to be a 'good neighbour' and promote win-win solutions.
Why would Network Rail's contractors enforce restrictions outside St John's ? :-)

@ Karen - Do you mean Haringey should be enforcing from Wightman Road up to the point where the road narrows ? Or do you mean nobody should be enforcing this stretch ?

It's obvious that parking should be banned over the whole stretch because of the numbers of very long low-loaders that have difficulty turning into / out of Wightman Road.

While you're talking to Mr Kennedy Karen, did you ask when the 20mph signs are going to be put up on Wightman ?
