Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

FOLLOWING the Hearing on 30 September in the Civic Centre, the Planning Inspector has released her Decision on the Appeal.

The Inspector dismissed the Appeal by the developer.

In effect, this upholds the earlier decision by Haringey's Planning Department, made under delegated powers, to reject the proposed development on the Highgate Bowl.

Much credit should go to the Highgate Bowl Action Group (including other local groups) in supporting the council's position and to their brilliant barrister, Nathalie Lieven QC.

It will come as good news for all concerned, except for "Omved International Ltd.", domiciled in the British Virgin Islands. The site was said to have been bought for £2,062,000.

The website of the architect involved makes interesting claims about obtaining planning consent on "on difficult and contentious sites" and about their relationship with local authorities. Most will hope that this is the last attempt by developers to target this prime site for building.

The plans were to build three (only) luxury houses on Highgate's former garden centre, adjacent to the worthy Harington scheme.
