Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello guys,

My name is Darren and I am asking you to keep an eye out for my stolen bike.

Unfortunately, the police have no more lines of enquiry and have closed my crime report under outcome code 18. This means it is up to me to create new lines of enquiry, without tipping off the thief. This is one such way.

The bike in question is a blue men's hybrid bike.

The attached poster has more details. Please feel free to print it off, but do not distribute this poster. The thief may see it and dispose of my bike before the police can get to it.

I suspect the thief still has the bike or has sold it to someone within Harringay.

If the bike is safe enough to retrieve then please do so and call the police on 101, so they can take it from you.

If you are unable to do this, please leave the location of the bike, call the police on 101 and use my crime reference number to inform them of its location.

If you wish to report information to the police anonymously then replace 101 with 0800 555 111, which is the crimestoppers number.

The bike was stolen on Thursday 2nd July 2015 between 0200 and 0300 hours.

It was stolen from Effingham Road, London, N8 0AB.

A witness has said the thief is Eastern European and was wearing a black & red striped Nike t-shirt.

There is a potential reward of £100 if my bike is safely returned to the police intact.

All assistance is appreciated. I hope this goes a long way to deterring bike theft.

Cheers

Darren

If this is genuine, I'm sorry you have had your bike stolen.

But your post is a little odd.

I can't see any crime reference number.

You ask us to impound some bike we happen to see.

You ask us to print off your poster but don't give the details to the public _ we are the public.

What grounds do you have for suspecting the bike is still in Harringay ?

In darkness, at 2 am, your witness could tell that the thief was Eastern European ( whatever that means ) ?

Sorry to be suspicious.

There's a crime reference number on the poster.

Which the voices tell me it would be unwise to open

Is that your answer to everything? the last few posts you've always doubted or had negative views about links or URLS, I'm surprised you even turn on a computer what with your constant fear of viruses or the like...

I have been using computers since 1962

I open lots of URLs but use common sense. If someone says print off a poster but don't show it to the public I ask myself why.

You aren't the public, you are members of the Harringay community

A Forum with 9.600 members is pretty damn public

Is that you in the check shirt?

Close, but this is more my era

I've rephrased the bit about 'the public', as I recognise why it wouldn't make sense to you.

Moreover, it was a mistake to encourage people to print off the poster. The point is that you can print it off if it's helpful, but please don't stick it up anywhere.

The last thing I want is for the thief to see it and dispose of my bike.

Hi John,

- The crime reference number is on the poster.

- Only impound the bike if you feel it is safe to do so, don't risk your life.

- You aren't the public, you are members of the Harringay community.

- I have to assume it is still in Harringay, otherwise my search becomes too broad.

- I canvassed door-to-door for information, that is the information received from a resident.

What I'm trying to do is covertly collect information for the police to capture the thief.

My last resort is to put posters up, notify local newspapers and radio stations.

This is because the thief would then know the bike is stolen and may strip and dump the bike before the police can get to them. I'd like my bike back in one piece.

You have every right to be suspicious. Please feel free to ask me whatever questions you like. :)

Cheers

Darren

OK Darren

I hope you get the bike back.

Thank you, John.

I hope you can appreciate this is an extensively thought out plan.

This post seems really odd! The police wouldn't 'close the case'. Your bike details will be on database and if recovered would be returned to you. I've had bikes stolen before, the police advised us to search Gumtree where lots of stolen bikes end up. They also suggested looking in 2,d hand Bike Shops and Brick Lane. We found one of our stolen bikes on wwwbikeshd.co.uk. It pulls together all bikes for sale websites including gumtree. Enter details of bike and if the bike shows up for sale, you will be alerted. I highly recommend that you try the site. The transport police then retrieved it. It's heartbreaking and frustrating to lose a bike. The likelihood is that it's no longer in the borough. They are stolen and passed on to be sold.
