Typewriter
Does anyone have an old typewriter in good working order they want to sell. My son who is 7 saw one in a vintage fair and really liked it but I wasn't working so I thought I would ask around to try and buy him one nearer to home it would be a lovely thing to have around to help with writing and Stories

I often see portables in charity shops, have a trip along Green Lanes up to Palmers Green which is full of charity shops. The ribbons can be bought online at about 6 to 7 quid each, or you can re-ink a dry ribbon.
I'm about to restore my Silver Reed Silverette.

Thank you Martin it's good to know that ribbons can be dealt with now that was a bit of a worry for me not knowing if a ribbon could be repaired or replaced still.

There used to be a typewriter shop on Wordsworth Parade Green Lanes, it closed down when portable computers came in, always wished I'd gone in and bagged a couple in the closing down sale.

A few weeks ago on their way home from school my daughter and her friend came across a few old typewriters which had been left out on the street. They somehow managed to lug 3 of them home - they are really heavy!
The one my daughter kept is an Underwood Leader which we think dates from the 1940s or 50s.
Martin, do you know if there is a particular ribbon size we should buy, or is it a universal size? I think we have the 'round things' as my daughter called them.
