Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I was driving down White Hart Lane by the Primary School following a Homes for Haringey pick up. Every time it went over a bump in the road, broken glass was thrown out of the vehicle in all directions.  I tried to stop the driver by flashing my lights and using the horn. The driver would not stop and I continued to try to stop him over 2 kms. Eventually the driver did stop after I overtook him.

I told driver his vehicle was scattering glass in all directions which he must have seen in the mirror. There was a black bin bag on the back full of broken panes of glass. The vehicle had nothing like a tarpaulin or box to transport glass safely. When I asked the driver why he did not stop, he told me he was frightened of being involved in a road rage incident.   The driver then drove off without making the glass safe and before I could get the full registration number.

When I telephoned the Haringey, it would do nothing as I had not got the full vehicle registration.

I believe the Council should:

·        Make an effort to trace the driver and speak to him about failing to stop when being flagged down and driving with an unsafe load

·        Ensure either these vehicles do have a means of transporting glass safely – or they should not carry it on an open back vehicle

If a group of children had come out of the school, glass fragments would almost certainly got in their eyes.

I think Homes for Haringey should show that safety really is a priority.

Hmm. The van might have a tachometer which can provide records. And even if you had a partial registration it would only take a little bit of maths to work out what truck it was and who was driving it.

Quite.   I am surprised Haringey are so unwilling to investigate the incident.   It seems it only reacts if there is a serious incident.

You can see why incidents like Grenfell Tower happen .... some people convince themselves it is ok to shower glass all over the place or that polyethylene plastic could not possibly be flammable.
