Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello,
I heard from a local estate agent of  external copper gas piping being stolen in Pemberton road. They shut off the gas (at least they did this!) and cut out the piping! Amazing! First the tenant knew of it was he had no hot water!

This seems to be becoming increasingly common. We've had two similar incidents on the Ladder posted here in recent weeks. First Karl and then Marek and someone else posted on an incident in Muswell Hill that I can't find fight now.

I was told copper fetches £6 a kilo!  No wonder it gets taken.

this has just happened to our terrace in Wightman Road. Around 10.45pm my neighbour and his dog disturbed a man who had shut off the gas at the meters and was ripping the copper pipe from the exterior wall.

It sounds like he was aggressive and threatening when challenged. He declared he "would be back". Blimey.

I'm not sure what you can do to guard against this - just be vigilant and report any incidents to the police I suppose.

It's worrying - he *had* shut the gas off, but he could have quite easily failed to do so.

999. Plus photos if somebody has a mobile or camera handy. And a description to the police.

We had ours nicked on Wightman Road last night too...

I asked one of the policemen who responded to our 99 call if this was happening a lot. He said 'no'. It seems like there were 3 incidents in the same night!

The man who was disturbed outside our building at 10.45pm left empty handed, but he returned just before 6am to finish what he started and make off with the piping.

Do you have any idea what time it happened, Ed?
